The ICE Man Cometh!

macbr37.jpg

ICE agents set up at least two checkpoints on  streets in Lynwood last night around 11pm.

They arrested at least 6 Latino  men.

Legal observers spotted white vans unmarked at the Lynwood Police
Department (this coincides with the reports we have from witnesses). We are
going to continue with our plans to monitor in Lynwood in the mornings the
next couple days but now at mainly at the Police Department.

( from an action alert )

Before I left for work this morning I checked my wallet to make sure I had a copy of my Social Security Card, a pay stub and a copy of my birth certificate.

Why?

Beause the ICE Men are staying at the Hotel down the street from where I live and I look Latina- I’m Filipina but I figure to these guys we all look the same.

And then I thought…you know what, bite me.

Bite my multicultural backside

And I left it all at home.

Bastards.

  1. Not to mention WWII Germany.

I thought ICE was supposed to be all about homeland security. Latinos are not notorious for blowing things up. That would make them a really dumb first choice if the idea is to target enthnicities historically linked to terrorist activity.

  2. It makes no sense because it’s not about security- it’s about race.
    RACERACERACE.
People just won’t say it…they want to call it something else so they won’t sound like the bigots that they REALLY are.

  3. i think it’s more along the lines of immigration reform, and the Bush Administrations desire to see it go forward. ICE doing it’s job is a decidedly dirty sight, and will likely change public opinion to some degree. Now if Bush could only shut up Lou Dobbs.

    hi anita

  4. I still think that ” reform ” is easier for some to say then race.

If it was indeed about reform, they’d be talking about rounding up those Pesky Asians and Russians and and and >>>>>pick a country any country as well as Mexi- I mean

    Immigrants.
    😉

    Hi Criminy!

  5. Well it is just reassuring to know my tax dollars are protecting me from dangerous Mexican gardners in Lynwood Washington. That is fiscal responsiblity talking.

  6. it is THE issue people seem to be able to sink there teeth into. We have an incredibly liberal (by world standards) immigration policy, and still through government mismanagement and corruption on both sides of the border we still manage to net 15 million undocumented immigrants.
They have placed themselves in a very interesting box, and the ICE nonsense ( it’s sort of feeble don’t you think) is merely another gambit. The trucker move leaps to mind as another.

  7. I do not think I would define drawing loaded guns and pointing them at pregnant women as “feeble.” Other words leap to mind.

I also find it more than indefensible “the issue people seem to be able to sink their teeth into” that you are talking about there is hating, hunting, and terrorizing and incarcerating Mexicans. If that is the only issue the American people are capable of “sinking their teeth into” this country is done for.

  8. was there a question as to whether this country is done for or not if it maintains its current course?

ICE is doing the job they are being paid to do, which, at least ostensibly is enforcing the law. Interestingly, if you violate Mexico’s immigration policy you are charged with a felony and incarcerated. I’m not an advocate of that, but at which point do we consider our immigration policy liberal enough? We accept more legal hispanic immigrants than any nation on earth. Add to that an unprecedented national acceptance of 15 million undocumented immigrants, and I would have to say that we are far and away the worlds most lenient greeter of immigrants.
The immigration debate hasn’t particularly affected me personally. I do wonder though if those less fortunate aren’t taking a pretty good shot with the increased competition for their jobs?

  9. “was there a question as to whether this country is done for or not if it maintains its current course?”

    Well no, not really. Sigh.

Comparing U.S. practices to foreign practices is not a good way to gage the merit or rightness of U.S. laws or practices however. I could say I beat my children one day a week and my neighbor beats his children seven days a week so that makes me all good, but it would not make me all good, it would just make my neighbor worse.

  10. This is true. All I know is ICE can do as they wish as long as they leave my illegal immigrant coworkers alone. I happen to like them and would be greiviously miffed.

I think what really makes this entire issue so interesting is that there is no way out. No fix that will please people. 15 million is a pretty sizeable number, and I’ve yet to here even one plausible cure for the situation.
