Never Ride A Harley To A Sci-Fi Convention

Back in the 80’s me and my friend rode our motorcycles to a Doctor Who Convention and saw Colin Baker- who hands down knew how to work a crowd-.

Anyway.

Me and my friend were Musicians and we looked the part all of the time so we showed up in leather jackets with heavy dark eyeliner and torn up and safety pinned clothes.

Now the boys liked us ( the ones dressed up like espeacially the ones dressed up like Tom Baker- never did figure that one out) and a few of the girls and bless their hearts that took guts because nobody else would come within five feet of us.

You know who else was really nice to us?

Colin Baker

Colin Baker was more then happy to chat with us for a very long time when we lined up for autographs.

He was cool.

I had a great time at those Sci-Fi Conventions, as weird as they may look from the outside I respected every costumed over the top Fan because it takes mucho amounts of guts to show the world who you are and celebrate it.

Still.

It makes me wonder, if me and Margot showed up at one of those conventions on motorcycles today looking the way we did then- we wouldn’t be a side show because one must consider this picture from the Promo from ” The Stolen Earth ” episode of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who has lip locked with at least four of these characters- and one is a guy.

So I wonder…how would this Doctor have done at a Sci-Fi Convention back in the 80’s?

Who am I kidding.

He would have scored in a big way

 with the Tom Baker Fans.

Especially if he had shown up on a Harley and in Leather.

a.m.

So Anita, I Hear Doctor Wonderful Dies

These so called friends of mine have been sending me sympathy cards

because

they heard that David Tennant will be the Doctor no more.

So am I mad at them for them teasing me?

For sending me the LOL Momento Mori Pictures with David Tennant speaking English in an ” I Can Has Cheeseburger Accent” ?

Nope.

I’m not upset because knowledge is power and I’ve learned a few things:

What I learned courtesy of the BBC news is the ending of the DW Grand Finale and I’ve also learned that these friends of mine do not read THIS blog where I spilled the beans about the Grand Finale coming up on Friday about three weeks ago.

That surprised me because my friends have said:

( okay, most of the time they were drunk when they said it )

…Oh…I love your stuff Anita…you’re so funny Anita…I put your links at my blog Anita…I’m always at your blog Anita…blah …blah… blah…

Brother.

What a bunch of Toad Crunchers and Forked Tongued Snake Monkeys I have managed to befriend over the years. I feel like that little girl in Frankenstein who tosses flowers into the river with the Monster and  when she runs out of flowers he drowns her ..but I digress.

See, I can say all this stuff here because I’ve learned if I want to talk smack about my friends  who are the kind of people who find ways to cheat on computer games before they actually play the game I can just say it here…

because if I want to keep secrets from them

obviously…THIS IS THE PLACE TO DO IT.

SNARK ATTACK.

Thanks guys…you AREN’T useless…you saved me from a no post day…

Now…on to serious stuff…

Here’s some info about the Grand Finale…and even if you’ve been checking the spoilers and know how it ends I’ve been told it’s a heck of a show and is NOT to be missed.

Face This

I have a Face.

On Facebook.

And for awhile most of my Facebooker Friends

were Political Activists

and the pages and groups that they belong to are all tied to Politicians.

Which makes sense.

I know-let’s take a look at my pages, shall we?

Barack Obama

Politician

Yeah…well, Obama – I mean come on, he’s going to be the next President.

The Twilight Zone

I know…BIG SURPRISE

Doctor Who

But of COURSE

David Tennant

my favorite- well, you know…

Yow

Rod Serling

my favorite writer

I AM NOT WORTHY I AM NOT WORTHY

And then of course there are the groups where a large percentage of my Facebook activist friends connect ( which is what Facebook is supposed to be about…making connections with like minded people)  with all sorts of groups that want to make a change in the world, they care about human rights and voter’s rights and the environment.

Let’s see what I’ve got going on shall we?

Oh here’s one that really speaks to something I believe in

it’s called:

Fuck this, lets all go be PIRATES!!!

Actually- I go to that page A LOT- mostly I go there after doing political stuff – and I’m not kidding.

Kolchak – The Night Stalker

I joined this group because I like remembering the days when I wanted to be a Journalist that wrote about Monsters. I was about 10 years old at the time.

I’m  44 and guess what…I do write about monsters…who said a little girl’s dreams can’t come true?

Not me, that’s for sure.

 Death to Talkies!

It really is about something worthwhile- Silent Films- which in my opinion are pretty damn wonderful.

And of course to express how one feels

you can post mood pictures.

Here’s one I posted recently:

fluffy

(I was having a rough day.)

So I do have to ask myself.

If Facebook is all about Networking

and getting your views out there…what am I using it for?

Let me think.

I’ve got it.

Cyber Tagging.

Yeah.

That’s it.

                                               I am such a rebel.

What Remains

There is an artist

who takes cremains ( cremated  human remains )

and for a fee ( and NOT an inexpensive one ) turns them into artwork- a memorial to  your loved one – composed of your loved one.

A little strange, but given that Funerals are a way for the living to separate themselves from the dead so that both can go on to find peace is a very necessary ritual. How you chose to do that is personal and I would never question how people to express themselves in this process as long as they find a way to do that which is true to themselves and their beliefs.

So I was concerned when I read that an Artist- with little experience in dealing with people who are going through one of the most devastating experiences of their lives sits down with an Art Review Critic and says things like:

” What is a ripp-off is people my age burying a 16 year old…what I’m trying to get across is that death is a part of life.

First of all, I could have gotten that philosophy from the pages of  any Pop Psychology  book that you can grab off of a clearance table at a bookstore or out of a box at a yard sale- but  what is disturbing to me is that this Artist is using this philosophy to guide him in consultations with people who have just had a loved one stolen away from them by Death.

Back to the quote- what this Artist says is true- people who have found a ways to make money from the dead is a part of life.

I would advise that if you go into a situation where anyone is asking you for money and death- which has only just started to change the way you used to be- you really need to take someone with you – someone to watch out for you, to make sure you’re not entering into an arrangement where your loved one would say, ” for that much money – just take it and LIVE ”

Keep in mind this Artist never mentions what it’s like to see  the deceased before they were cremated, has never had a family member or friend hand him blanket to keep their Mom- who has just passed on- warm on her way to the funeral home  because she has always hated the cold- or talks about what it’s like when a Parent hands him their child’s favorite toy with no words and he knows they are doing that because he may be the last person to ever hold their child again.

That lack of acknowlegement concerns me because these are the people he is working with, these are the people he is taking money from I hope that as he pursues this practice he treats these  people – the living and the dead with the care and empathy that the most vulnerable of us need.

This Artist needs to realize he is no longer just an artist- he is a guide now and the people coming to him have never been more lost.

Here’s To Somebody Losing An Eye

“Being a pirate is all fun and games ’til somebody loses an eye;
It hurts like the blazes and makes you make faces,
And you can’t let your mates see you cry.
Life’s so one-dimensional, so unconventional, no bloody need to ask why…
Being a pirate is all fun and games ’til somebody loses an eye!”
