Cerbie

Last week I shared me and Luis and Cerbie’s story  we lost her last week.

It feels like it was yesterday- hours ago and I know it’s going to feel like that for a very long time. I also know that when I think about her I’ll probably ended up crying.  But along with that I know I will also get to remember the things that will make me smile- like

When it was snowing and she went outside she spent most of  her time running around the back yard with her eyes closed

Cerbie In The Snow 2009

And for her own reasons she never liked having her picture taken. She’d turn her head away from the camera and start to grumble. Or she would get up and just walk away. Gee. I wonder who she could have learned that from? Okay. I’ll fess up. She learned it from me. What can I say. She was my girl alright.

Cerbie NOT wanting her picture taken.

Cerbie didn’t just leave me and Luis behind- she left behind her sister Domino

And two of the kittens she raised- Darwin ( on the right ) went from being a kitten to a dog- and not just a small dog- oh no. He thinks he’s a big dog, and to this day – almost 10 years later that’s what he is-  a big dog just like his Cerbie.

Cerbie’s Boys- Micey is on the left- Darwin is on the right.

About five years ago I brought Kolchak home- and Cerbie and her sister for their own reasons took him in like he had been one of theirs all along- we lost one Blitzer a few years ago and Kolchak spent most of his time with Cerbie and Domino after that.

Kolchak- always a whisker away from Cerbie or Domino

Today me and Luis had a little remembrance service for Cerbie. Her sister was in the room with us and so were the kittens ( ok, they’re almost 10 years old but I still call them the kittens )

We put Cerbie’s urn near the window where the sun can shine on it during the day.

We all love her so very much.

Day 983 of my captivity:

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They

dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or

some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless

must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to

disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I

had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly

demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending

comments about what a ‘good little hunter’ I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed

in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear

the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to

the power of ‘allergies.’ I must learn what this means and how to use it to

my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my

tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this

again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The

dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be

more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the

guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors

have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.

For now …

Today I read about a dog

that has been so mistreated by people

she can’t trust humans anymore.

That lack of trust could kill her.

Inhumanity.

It’s a disease.

And it’s spreading.

Suffering stray dog unable to trust anyone

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — For two months, a stray dog has suffered.

A chain has been digging into her neck. But no one, not even Animal Control, can catch her.

Conan

This is a true story about a dog that was shot at multiple times by a person with a massive inferiority complex, no sense of right and wrong and their bow and arrow.

The heartbreaking part of the story is that the dog died- the part of the story that will stay with me forever is that the dog was sitting at his family’s back door where he knew he’d be found by the people he loved.

I can’t help but to wonder if there is a place like that for the person who killed Conan.

I don’t think so.

The world – fit for neither human, nor beast.

The Inhuman Condition

I’ve heard this may be a hoax.

I would like to believe that’s true

because

 what concerns me is this:

If you’re able to do this to a defenseless animal.

What on Earth are you capable of doing to a defenseless human being?

Starving, abandoned pit bull gets new chance

By Akiko Fujita ( a KOMO News Story )

The Humane Society of the U.S. is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the owner of a pit bull, abandoned in a Renton parking garage. A security guard at Valley Medical Center spotted six month-old Milo on Feb. 9, starving and dehydrated.”He just looked horrible,” said Mary Tahlequah who has since adopted Milo. “He was scared, skinny, he just didn’t look good.”Tahlequah’s friend Stefanie Trumbla was called to a Renton veterinarian after her mother offered to take care of the dog. She said Milo was so weak, he used his elbows to walk. His paws were wounded, his elbows scraped so badly his bone was sticking out.

The vet told Trumbla Milo suffered from a birth defect described as a “flexor contractor.” The dog’s muscles were shortened and that prevented him from using his wrists normally.

Home video shot six days after Trumbla rescued Milo shows the dog limping with his paws facing inward. He is unable to put weight on his hind legs. Tahlequah said Milo’s condition was so bad because his previous owner did not take proper care of him.

“He was left in a cage or crate a lot. Wounds on his elbow were from trying to get around,” she said.

Vets suggested euthanizing Milo but Tahlequah refused to accept that as an option. She pitched in $5,000 for Milo’s medical costs and treated his wounds from her Kent home.

A few weeks after he was rescued, Milo can slowly walk down the stairs with his heavily bandaged legs but he still needs a metal plate placed in his wrist. Tahlequah said that surgery would cost $5,000 more and she does not have the money for that.

She has set up a fund at Wells Fargo Bank and created the website http://www.pleasehelpmilo.com/  documenting Milo’s recovery in hopes of raising the funds needed for the puppy’s medical costs.

“He’s got a really great soul in there and a willing spirit to live,” she said.
