Today I had to give my cat fluids through an IV for the first time.
It’s no big deal…or so I thought- I used to be a Mortician I can do the needle and fluid thing right?
Sure.
The problem is I wasn’t fast enough to set up and my cat, Wolfie (aka Insanity Jones) got mad and just for fun he tried to take out my dog’s eye when Cerbie popped her head up on the table to see what was going on.
By the way if you’d like know how to unhook a cat’s claw from a dog’s face while he has a needle stuck between his shoulder blades let me know.
Oh and the needle actually popped out at one point and at least it was water and not embalming fluid that got all over us so it was no harm done.
But we got through it.
Later, as I was putting everything away I was feeling proud of myself and Insanity looked better almost right away and I’m about to go to the bathroom mirror and kiss my own reflection for a job well done when this awful pain shoots right up the back of my left leg and my right eye starts to water and I think I’m having a heart attack or something.
But don’t worry…the pain was caused by Insanity’s teeth which were briefly attached to Achilles tendon.
I showed him the needle and he let go.
Man- whatever it is that I pay my Cat’s Doctor -it is not enough.

Cat = moving, fish hooks on paws, teeth in mouth, attitude (I really do like cats – I’m just realistic!)
dead body = not so much of any of the above
I have to give you credit, Anita Marie, you do have a lot of dedication to your pets (which is wonderful) and a lot of courage -er – bravado -er- something – to give a cat an IV. 🙂
I can empathize a bit– try using a syringe to give antibiotics to a parrot.
But, right now, I sure don’t want to be in your shoes. Someday, somewhere, somehow, Insanity will strike.
Hi Jane,
Life would be pretty dull without Insanity, so I soldier on- plus he’d expect me to help him so I have to.
Hey there Lori…that’s what keeps him going, Insanity loves to strike, he lives to strike, he likes that sound squeak we make when he attacks.
Boy.

He and Sparta would make a scary team.
I understand the helping him part – what I don’t understand is not wearing full plate mail when you do it.
Because he’d be the first cat in the world to learn to use a can opener…

The IV is better than renal failure. You did good.
Hey Max Guess What
He’s been eating like once an hour now…hurray!
Guess what else…I can get my digital pics put on a disc right down the street…be prepared for some Insanity….but I’m warning you, he’s kind of skinny.

I am so glad he is doing so much better. Yay!
You know how to stick a cat?
That’s talent.
I’m looking forward to seeing some pics of the infamous Insanity Jones.
Hi Kitty,
Yep…it’s one I honestly didn’t think I’d ever use again
But what the hey, it’s useful.
amm
i get the feeling you’ll be needing the IV
are you sure killing the cat isn’t an option?
Nah, the world wouldn’t be as much fun without Insanity.
How is Insanity doing today? For some reason I’ve developed an affectionate concern for an evil kitty I’ve never met nor even seen. Insanity is becoming a legend in the blogosphere.
You’ll be seeing him…Albertsons can upload my digital memory card to a disc so I’ll re-edit the Insanity Stories and post his real picture.
And he woke me at 4:30 in the morning to eat.
grrrrrrrrrr he’s fine.
Ooooooooo, 4:30? He IS an evil kitty….
I put Wolfie up on his Insanity Stories here:

Ouch! But smart cat. Do you think that whole “show the needle” thing would work on teenagers?
Not sure about it working on teenagers…however I found that when my kids were teenagers the ‘taking away the car key thing’ did.
OUCH!
